AS THE BRASS TURNS

A Brief History

Chatleff Controls, Inc. was founded in the 1950s by O.O. Shurtleff and George Chatham in Austin, Texas. They received their first patents for HVAC Reversing Valves and Check Valves in 1958. In 1969, A-T-O, Inc. in Willoughby, Ohio acquired Chatleff Controls as a division of Ward Hydraulics. A few years later in 1975, A-T-O transferred Mr. Raymond Henderson to work at Chatleff Controls. As General Manager, Mr. Henderson was charged with improving product lines, designing unique production processes, and initiating timely quality control testing procedures.

In 1978, A-T-O sold Chatleff Controls to Mr. Henderson and several other sales representatives. The Henderson family became the sole owners of Chatleff Controls, Inc. in 1984. Mr. Henderson went on to design and patent the 3843 Eliminator-Distributor and the Chatleff Special Orifice Piston in 1988. With sales expanding, Chatleff Controls soon outgrew its facilities in Austin and moved to a larger location in Buda, Texas. Other companies quickly began to take notice of the success Mr. Henderson brought to Chatleff Controls.

Upon retirement in 2007, Mr. Henderson sold Chatleff Controls, Inc. to Danfoss. With this sale, a new separate company was formed as Henderson Controls, Inc. with Mr. Henderson's son, Randall Henderson, as its new President. Henderson Controls, Inc. began by supplying Danfoss with parts and starting other product lines, such as commercial Headers, for several large HVAC manufacturers.

Randall Henderson retired in 2019 leaving majority stockholder, Carolyn Henderson, as Chairman of the Board with President/CEO, Glen Boatright, running the daily affairs of the company. Currently, Henderson Controls, Inc. is still located in Buda, Texas manufacturing and supplying HVAC and copper tubing-related products to its customers as an ISO 9001 Certified company with over 60 years of history and experience.
